“Tiao Hua” was once a common weaving technique in Dali, often seen in the old fabrics of the Miao and Dong ethnic groups in Guizhou. During the Tiao Hua process, a needle of similar thickness to a knitting needle is used to hook the weft threads, counting numbers—one thread, three threads, one by one—precisely picking through the vertical warp threads, eventually forming embroidery-like patterns. Therefore, Tiao Hua is also known as "counting threads," and the elder women would say, "we're stitching the fabric."
